Measuring Guide

Inside Your Window Recess

Measure inside your window recess and say what you are measuring:

  • Recess Size = side to side/ top to bottom with no allowances. Manufacturers will automatically deduct approximately 5mm so your products will operate properly and not rub against your window frame.

  • Blind Size = width and drop exactly the size you want. Manufacturers will make the blind to the size (including headrail/ bracket) that you order, with no allowances.

  • For width, measure in three places and use the narrowest measurement.

  • For height, measure in three places and use the shortest measurement.

  • Installation Height - this is directly related to the maximum length a control can be, and is in response to new standards in child safety for blinds. The installation height is from the top fixing point to the floor.

Outside Your Window Recess

This can make your window appear bigger and hide unattractive windows. When deciding whether to fit the blind inside or outside the recess, consider the following points. It is best to fit the blind outside the recess if:

  • The recess is less than 75cm (3") deep

  • The window opens inwards

  • The window is not straight (width or height varies by more than 20mm (3/4")

With this option, you can go as wide, or as long as you like. However,as a guide only, to ensure minimum light gaps and maximum privacy, add approx. 10cms on each of the four sides. Leave room for the mounting brackets, which can be 1 to 3 inches tall.

For outside recess, you should measure the width and drop at exactly the sizes you want = Blind Size. Manufacturers will make the blind to the size that you order, with no allowances

Installation Height is directly related to the maximum length a control can be, and is in response to new standards in child safety for blinds. The installation height is from the top fixing point to the floor.

Measuring Velux Window Blinds

There is no need for measuring; you only need to provide us with a reference number. To do this, check your unique Velux data plate for the reference number make a note of it. The data plate is only visible when the window is open and can be found on the top sash of the window.

You need the first 3 letters (For example GGL, GHL or GPL) Size = the following numbers (1-3 digits long which may include a letter for example S06, 606 or 4)

Other things you should know:

  • Vertical blinds: please request face fix brackets if the blind is to be fitted to a wall or top fix brackets if the blind fits to a ceiling.

  • Roller blinds: The width of the fabric of the roller blind is always narrower than your specified width by approx 2cms on either side because of the installation brackets.
